Talk: On the trail of the first king of England: Why Athelstan deserves pilgrims - Tom Holland
Tom Holland is in Malmesbury to celebrate the opening of the Athelstan Pilgrim Way. His new talk, 'On the trail of the first king of England: Why Athelstan deserves pilgrims', is being delivered in the superb setting of Malmesbury Abbey.
Tom is an award-winning historian, biographer and broadcaster. He is the author of several books on Greek and Roman history, and his biography Æthelstan was published in 2016 under the Penguin Monarchs series. Dominion, a best-selling account of the history of Christian ideology in the West, and Holland's biography of Æthelflæd, England’s Forgotten Founder, were both published in 2019. Tom is the presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Making History and also co-presents the top 10 podcast, The Rest is History. He has very kindly agreed to become the Patron of the Athelstan Pilgrim Way.
The funds raised from this talk will support the development and operation of the Athelstan Pilgrim Way.
