Athelstan had no children, so he is not the direct ancestor of anyone alive today. He was, however, related to individuals who are the ancestors of today’s royal family.  King Charles III is a direct descendant of Edmund, Athelstan’s successor and half-brother. The kin’s bloodline can be traced back further to King Ecgberht of Wessex who ruled 802-839.
